Meet Dr. Alissa A. Call
Dr. Alissa A. Call earned her Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Toledo in 2018 and began working at Black Hills State University in August 2018. Her current rank is Assistant Professor of Psychology in the School of Behavioral Sciences, housed in the College of Behavioral Sciences and Education at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD. She established the Students of Law and Psychology (S.L.A.P.) Lab in the Spring of 2019.
Get to Know Dr. Alissa A. Call
Research Interests
Dr. Call is interested in the manner to which people are viewed in the criminal justice system and how these views translate to the adjudication of criminal and civil cases. She uses social and cognitive theories to investigate how lay people judge and decide cases. Specifically, she is interested in credibility factors surrounding child sexual abuse cases, campus sexual assault, and cases that allegedly occur on Native American lands. Dr. Call regularly presents her work at the American Psychology-Law Society annual conference and is working on a number of manuscripts for publication. Dr. Call is always looking for undergraduate research assistants to contribute to her lab!
Teaching Interests
Dr. Call enjoys teaching a variety of courses: Psychology and the Law, Social Psychology, Research Methods in Experimental Psychology, and General Psychology. She also enjoys advising, mentoring, and discussing graduate school plans with her students.
Random Facts
Dr. Call likes to spend her time gardening, hiking, reading, cooking, and fishing. She loves to spend time with her husband (Blake), son (Slater), daughter (Salem), and kitty (Chloe)! She is excited to explore more of the Black Hills region this year as well!
